PRP Belongs Under the Skin – Not in the Stomach
PRP belongs under the skin – not in the stomach
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a medical procedure with great potential – when used correctly. However, questionable applications are increasingly being seen on social media and in some practices, where PRP is suddenly marketed as a “drinkable cure,” “tincture,” or even “gut therapy.”
But what does science say?
Quite clearly: PRP is not a dietary supplement.
What PRP actually is – and how it works
PRP is highly concentrated blood plasma obtained from your own blood through centrifugation. It contains:
- Platelets with activated growth factors
- regenerative signaling molecules
- cell-stimulating proteins
These act locally, i.e., at the site of injection – for example, in the skin or at the hair roots. The effect is based on targeted stimulation of cells and tissues, not on systemic absorption via the gastrointestinal tract.
Why PRP should not be consumed
There is not a single evidence-based study that proves oral intake of PRP to be effective or safe. On the contrary:
- Gastric acid would immediately destroy the sensitive growth factors
- The platelets lose their activity as soon as they are not injected correctly
- PRP is an autologous injection preparation – it is subject to strict hygiene requirements and is not approved for oral intake
Even in regenerative medicine, PRP is used exclusively locally – for example, for joint problems, wound healing, or aesthetic treatments. Oral applications are not scientifically supported. [PubMed ID: 29699947]
PRP as a lifestyle shot? Please, no.
When a medical therapy procedure suddenly becomes a supposed detox drink, caution is needed.
Anyone who drinks PRP gets no regenerative benefit, just a show – with no substance. Worse: it undermines trust in one of the most exciting therapies in regenerative medicine.
How to recognize reputable PRP providers
- PRP is not offered as a drink cure or “wellness product”
- There is a clear indication and medical information
- Preparation is done using CE-certified systems
- It is injected locally, sterilely, and with medical intent
- There is no combination with globules, homeopathy, or pseudo-medical claims
