Botox for Migraines – Enhanced Quality of Life Through Modern Medicine

How modern medicine creates new quality of life

Botox for migraines

Migraines are not just a simple headache. They can affect your entire life—privately, professionally, and emotionally. Many of our patients report days when nothing works anymore: throbbing pain, sensitivity to light, nausea. Women between the ages of 30 and 50 are particularly affected.

A modern and surprisingly effective therapy option: Botulinum toxin – better known as Botox®. What many don’t know: Botox can help medically with chronic migraine—and this is scientifically proven.

How does Botox work for migraines?

Botox blocks the release of pain messengers—primarily CGRP, which plays a central role in migraines. Through targeted injections in the forehead, neck, and scalp area, the following is achieved:

  • Signal transmission in the trigeminal nerve is reduced
  • Muscle tension is lowered
  • Attack frequency is significantly reduced

When is Botox useful for migraines?

Botox is approved for the treatment of chronic migraines. This means:
  • at least 15 headache days per month
  • at least 8 of those days with migraine characteristics
  • when other therapies (e.g., medications) do not provide sufficient relief

What do studies say about effectiveness?

The PREEMPT studies (Aurora et al., 2010) demonstrate the effectiveness of Botox in chronic migraine:

  • Reduction of migraine days by up to 50%
  • Significant improvement in quality of life
  • Very good tolerability with a minimal risk of side effects
