HIFU Neck Lift –
the area that shows age first.

The skin on the neck is particularly thin, poorly supplied with sebaceous glands, and exposed to extreme daily stress. It loses elasticity earlier than the face — and shows changes more clearly. Focused ultrasound reaches the platysma at a depth of 4.5 mm and fine wrinkles at 3.0 and 1.5 mm here — precisely, without touching the sensitive structures of the larynx and thyroid gland.

The Goal: a neck that matches the face.

Combinable with HIFU Face Lift in one session. Billing according to GOÄ.

What the treatment achieves:

  • Platysma Tightening (4.5 mm): The muscle-fascia layer of the neck is tightened — this eliminates platysma bands and lifts the neck
  • Fine wrinkles (3.0 + 1.5 mm): Horizontal neck wrinkles and crepey skin are treated from the inside out
  • Anatomical Precision: The larynx and thyroid gland are rigorously spared — anesthesiological training sharpens the understanding of these safety zones

Description

Why the Neck Deserves Special Attention

The neck often reveals age earlier than the face. The skin here is thinner, has fewer sebaceous glands, and produces less skin’s own collagen. In addition, there is constant strain from movement, sun exposure, and gravity. The result: sagging of the platysma, horizontal wrinkles, the so-called turkey neck. Facial care products are simply not developed for this zone — they do not penetrate to the depths where the change takes place.

Patients from Erlangen, Nuremberg, and the Franconian Metropolitan Region, who come to me in Herzogenaurach, often ask for HIFU neck lift as an addition to facial treatment — or as a standalone treatment when the neck disproportionately influences the overall appearance.

Three Treatment Depths — One Safety Zone

The neck is anatomically challenging. Larynx, thyroid gland, and the large neck vessels are in close proximity to the treatment zone. The safety of HIFU treatment on the neck is based on two principles: precise transducer positioning and consistent sparing of the midline as well as the deep medial structures.

  • 4.5 mm — Platysma Layer: The superficial muscle-fascia system of the neck. Tightening here creates the most visible lifting effect and reduces platysma bands. Treated laterally, midline always spared.
  • 3.0 mm — Deep Reticular Dermis: Collagen building for firmness and elasticity. Reduces crepey skin and incipient wrinkles.
  • 1.5 mm — Superficial Dermis: Fine lines and skin texture. Particularly effective for horizontal neck wrinkles known as

What Studies Show About Neck Treatment

  • Fabi et al. 2013 (JAAD, 69(6):965–971): Significant wrinkle reduction in the neck and décolleté area at 90, 180, and 360 days post-treatment (p<0.01)
  • Pavicic et al. 2025 (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 67 studies): Mean submental lift 78.7 mm, 87% GAIS improvement rate — also including neck and décolleté treatments
  • Werschler & Werschler 2016 (JCAD, n=20): 95% of patients maintained improvements after one year — for face and neck combined

The Combination That Makes the Difference

HIFU neck lift alone already produces visible results. In combination with two treatments, the most complete result for the neck zone is achieved:

  • HIFU Face Lift + Neck in One Session: The upper and middle third of the face are treated simultaneously — the result appears more harmonious because the face and neck are tightened as a unit. To HIFU Face Lift →
  • HIFU + hyperdiluted Radiesse®:For patients with pronounced crepey skin and loss of elasticity, the combination of HIFU (tightening) and hyperdiluted calcium hydroxylapatite (dermal biostimulation) is the most effective solution — both treatments target different levels and mutually reinforce each other. This combination is part of the treatment concept approach of our practice.

Frequently Asked Questions about HIFU Neck Tightening

+When do you see the results of HIFU neck tightening?
Initial changes are often noticeable within the first few weeks — the skin appears firmer, and fine lines are smoother. The full result develops over 3 to 6 months as neocollagenesis reaches its peak. The effect is proven to last up to 12–18 months (Fabi et al. 2013).
+Is there any downtime after the neck treatment?
No medical downtime — you are socially presentable immediately after the treatment. A slight redness or a feeling of warmth in the neck may last for a few hours. Many patients go straight home and, to be extra cautious, wear a scarf. Sports and sauna should be paused for 48 hours.
+Is the thyroid gland at risk from HIFU on the neck?
No — with correct application, the thyroid gland is not reached. The ultrasound focuses precisely on the pre-selected depth and has no thermal effect outside the focal point. The treatment is carried out exclusively laterally; the midline (larynx, thyroid gland) is consistently avoided. In cases of known thyroid diseases, we discuss this during the preliminary consultation and decide individually.
+Can I treat neck and face in one session?
Yes — and this is often the more sensible decision. The face and neck are perceived as a single unit. Tightening the face without including the neck creates an imbalance that stands out. A combined session takes approximately 60–90 minutes and produces a harmonious overall result. If desired, the décolleté can also be treated in the same session.
+For whom is HIFU neck tightening not suitable?
Contraindications include active inflammations or infections in the treatment area, pregnancy, metal implants in the neck area (e.g., after spinal surgeries), severe autoimmune diseases with skin involvement, and very severely sagging skin where a surgical intervention would be the more appropriate procedure. We clarify this in a personal preliminary consultation.
