In my specialist practice, we follow a strict 2-phase concept: In the first step, we eliminate acute inflammation with high-tech clinical light therapy and medication. Only when the skin has calmed down do we erase deep scars and dark spots in the second step with PRP and microneedling.

The medical approach: First extinguish the fire, then rebuild

The frustration is enormous when, during active acne (or late-onset acne in adulthood), you spend hundreds of euros on cosmetics while new painful nodules form and leave deep scars. My approach at the private practice in Herzogenaurach is uncompromisingly medical. We strictly divide treatment into two phases, because acutely inflamed skin requires completely different therapies than scarred skin.

Patients from Erlangen, Nuremberg and Fürth receive a long-term, evidence-based master plan that supports you from the first acute pimples through to an even, scar-free complexion.

Phase 1: Acute therapy & stopping inflammation

As long as the skin is “flaring up”, deep needling is taboo. We have to kill the acne bacteria and reduce sebum production:

  • Medical high-tech light therapy: We flood your skin with targeted, clinical light spectra. Pure blue light destroys the C. acnes bacteria in the pores, while deeply penetrating red light massively suppresses inflammation. Completely painless and highly effective.
  • Prescription medications: Over-the-counter creams only work on the surface. As a physician, I can prescribe highly potent formulations when needed (e.g. tretinoin, medical azelaic acid or antibiotics) that tackle the problem at its root.
  • Medical peels: Certified salicylic acid peels dissolve deep keratinization and clear clogged pores.

Phase 2: Structural rebuilding & scar correction

Once the acute acne has been stopped, we repair the “legacy damage” (crater-like scars and dark spots). Here, we make extensive use of medical regeneration tools:

  • Medical needling & PRP (vampire lift): We reach physician-controlled depths to break up hardened scar tissue. Your concentrated blood plasma (PRP) is infused and drastically accelerates the formation of new, healthy collagen.
  • Polynucleotides: We inject these DNA building blocks directly into deep tissue defects to plump up the skin structure from within.
  • Depigmentation: For stubborn dark spots (PIH), we use brightening medical peels that shed discolorations and inhibit the new production of melanin.

Specialist-level pain management

Acute treatment with light therapy is completely painless. For the later, more intensive scar treatment (deep needling), I can draw on my advantage as a specialist in anesthesiology: by using extremely strong, prescription-only numbing creams, I ensure that you experience even this intensive therapy in a maximally relaxed and comfortable way.

Frequently asked questions about acne treatment

+ How quickly does light therapy work on pimples?
Targeted irradiation often shows astonishingly rapid results. Redness and swelling from acute inflammation visibly decrease after the very first session. For a lasting reduction of bacteria, we often recommend 1 to 2 sessions per week during the acute phase.
+ Does health insurance cover the costs?
We are a private practice. This means you receive a transparent invoice according to the German Schedule of Fees for Physicians (GOÄ). Private health insurers often cover medically necessary acne therapies (Phase 1). Aesthetic scar corrections (Phase 2) are usually considered self-pay services.
+ Will I have any downtime?
Phase 1 (light therapy) has absolutely no downtime – you can return to work immediately afterwards. In Phase 2 (medical needling / PRP), the skin is red for about 1 to 3 days, similar to a strong sunburn. We schedule these procedures so that they fit easily into your daily routine.
